Important News for Shipments to Canada

As of January 11, 2016, adherence to the eManifest requirements of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) becomes mandatory.  Failure to comply with these requirements can result in service delays and monetary penalties under CBSA’s Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS), which would be passed on to the bill to party. For example, one of the penalty areas relates to “failing to provide true/ accurate/complete information”.  This primarily relates to bill of lading preparation; for example accurate description of packaging and handling units (1 skid not acceptable; 1 skid /30 cartons acceptable) and descriptive cargo information (e.g. apparel not acceptable; men’s shirts acceptable).

While we cannot summarize the many various effects of the change, we at least wanted to make you aware of it and recommend that you refer to the attached links and other information on the CBSA website for the complete and detailed information.

In addition, you will now need to access AESDirect through the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). In 2014, President Obama signed an executive order, dictating that CBP and other agencies will use ACE as the primary means of receiving data required for both the release of imported cargo and the clearance of cargo for export.

If you are an exporter: You need to apply for an ACE account, which should only take a few moments.

If you are an importer and an exporter: You may already have an ACE account, in which case you can log in to your importer account and add the exporter role to this account.

Global Forwarding is fully prepared to comply with these important new regulations, so please contact us for help with Canadian shipments!
